Membership
Members can attend field meetings and indoor meetings. We usually hold 10-12 field meetings between late March and October in locations across East and West Sussex. The indoor meetings are held in November and February or March in Staplefield. In November we review the events of the past year, have an invited talk and show members slides. The spring meeting is the AGM, followed by a discussion of the projects and field meetings for the new year and a short session for members slides.
Members receive 2 newsletters each year which contain short articles on topics of botanical interest in Sussex. Click here to download an example.
The cost of membership is £5.00 per year or £7.00 for two members living at the same address. If you would like to join us please download the membership form and send it with your subscription to our treasurer (address on the form). If you require any further information about membership please email our secretary membership@sussexflora.org.uk.
Surveys
We can undertake botanical surveys of specific sites within the boundaries of East and West Sussex either as individuals or as a larger group. Following a survey we provide lists of plants present in the area together with further information about those species which are of particular interest (for example nationally or locally rare species) and, where appropriate, advice on their conservation.
To arrange a survey or to obtain further information please contact our Chairman, Rod Stern at surveys@sussexflora.org.uk.
Botanical Records
If you have any queries about vascular plants in Sussex or would like to send us records for species which you have found then please contact the BSBI recorder for either East Sussex (Paul Harmes) - e_sussex_recorder@sussexflora.org.uk or West Sussex (Alan Knapp) - w_sussex_recorder@sussexflora.org.uk.
We can provide information to commercial organisations requiring botanical information for specific sites (for example for planning purposes) but we make a charge for extracting and supplying such information. If you would like more information please contact w_sussex_recorder@sussexflora.org.uk for enquiries relating to any part of Sussex.
Lower plants (mosses, lichens and liverworts)
Although most of the work of the Society is concerned with flowering plants and ferns we have some members whose expertise extends to the lower plants such as mosses and lichens. For further information on lower plant recording please email Howard Matcham at lower_plant_recorder@sussexflora.org.uk.
Important note: Unfortunately we are unable to answer casual enquiries about the locations of rare species in Sussex.
