On 24 May, Linnaeus’ birthday, the Linnean Society holds its AGM.  This year the Society presented the H H Bloomer Award to Howard Matcham to acknowledge his ‘important contribution to botanical knowledge.’  The citation further stated that his work on African and Chilean bryophytes had resulted in new records for both continents; new species to science in bryology and mycology and new British and European records in bryology, mycology and phycology.  Among the Fellows gathered at Burlington House was our President, David Streeter; and among previous recipients of this prestigious Award is another of our eminent members, Eric Clement.
